Beginners Online Workshop

Starting form: £25

Max Group Size: 10

Length: 2 hours

Introduction to the Workshop

Spend two focused hours online with photographer Toby Roney and a group of like-minded creatives. This is a workshop designed to help you see more clearly, shoot more deliberately, and build confidence behind the camera.

Whether you’re just starting out or getting back to the basics, this session is about understanding the fundamentals properly — not just fiddling with buttons or chasing gear upgrades.

This is your entry point. A foundation. And a stepping stone to more in-depth courses for those who want to push further.

Toby has produced commercial work for Garmin, captured expeditions for Arc'teryx, and shot campaigns in some of the world’s most remote environments. His work has featured in Red Bull Bulletin, The New York Times, and The Telegraph. He’s not here to sell presets or chase Instagram aesthetics. He’s here to help you take photos that mean something — to you.

What Is It?

This is a two-hour online workshop designed to give you a clear, working understanding of how to use your camera on manual — and why that matters. We’ll cover the essentials, shoot exercises you can practise in your own time, and cut through the noise that often surrounds photography education.

You’ll learn:

  • What Manual Mode really means (and how to use it without overthinking)
  • How aperture, shutter speed and ISO work together
  • How to take control of light, focus, and exposure
  • Practical tips on composition and shooting in different lighting conditions
  • How to move from single images to photo sets that tell a story
  • A few mistakes to avoid — and shortcuts that actually work

This isn’t theory for theory’s sake. It’s a session designed to get you doing the thing — and to help you do it better.

What Will I Learn?

You’re not here to scroll. You’re here to make things.
To understand your camera, not get lost in settings.
To take pictures with intention, not just take more of them.

This workshop is a space to pause, refocus, and start building a photography practice that’s clear, grounded, and actually enjoyable.

What's Included?

As this is an online workshop session, all you need is yourself, a laptop, a good internet connection and your camera! You don’t need fancy gear. Just an interest in improving.

If you could ensure you won't be disturbed whilst in the session, this will ensure you get the most out of the workshop.
