Morocco Photography Workshop

Starting form: £2500

Max Group Size: 10

Length: 6 days

Introduction to the Workshop

Step away from the noise. Spend six days immersed in Morocco with your camera and a small crew of like-minded creatives. This is not a tour. It’s a working trip. Designed for people who want to spend more time creating and less time planning.

Led by photographer Toby Roney, you’ll travel through desert landscapes, old kasbahs, and mountain passes. Toby Roney has spent years capturing remote corners of the world - he’s produced commercial work for Garmin, documented remote expeditions for Arc'teryx, and his images have featured in Red Bull Bulletin, The New York Times and The Telegraph. His work isn’t about chasing the perfect image – it’s about showing up, seeing clearly, and building a body of work that reflects your perspective.

This is an investment in your creative practice. A way to step outside your day-to-day and sharpen your eye in a place that demands your full attention.

What Is It?

This is a hands-on photography workshop that moves through some of Morocco’s most compelling terrain. For six days, we travel together in 4x4s from Marrakech to Merzouga, through the Atlas Mountains, down into the dunes of the Sahara, and out to the Atlantic coast. It’s a carefully considered route designed to offer visual diversity and cultural richness.

You’ll photograph:

  • High mountain passes with panoramic views
  • The UNESCO-listed ksar of Ait Ben Haddou
  • Palm oases in the Draa Valley
  • The shifting dunes of Erg Chebbi at golden hour
  • Life in the gorges of Dadès and Todgha
  • Remote kasbahs and quiet desert roads

Each day balances time behind the camera with space to slow down and look properly. You’ll get the chance to experiment, reset, and build confidence in a setting that rewards patience and attention. Think of it as a curated road trip through Morocco’s most photogenic spots, with an accomplished photographer mentoring you at every step.

What Will I Learn?

This workshop is about doing the work – not theory, not overthinking. Just time in the field with your camera, learning by shooting.

Here’s what we’ll focus on:

  • Using natural light. Especially in difficult conditions – strong sun, fast-changing skies, low light at dawn.
  • Moving efficiently with your gear. What to bring, how to shoot simply, and how to make the most of what you’ve got.
  • Telling a story. Looking for connections between your images. Thinking in terms of a set or a sequence rather than single shots.
  • Being decisive. When to stop and shoot, when to move on. How to trust your eye and act on instinct.
  • Editing in the field. Each evening, we’ll look at what you’ve captured and talk through what’s working, what could be refined, and where to go next.
  • One-on-One Mentoring: This intimate retreat gives you plenty of personal interaction with Toby. He’ll be by your side to answer questions, critique your shots, and offer gentle guidance. Expect patient, tailored support and a relaxed pace that lets you truly absorb each setting.

You’ll also pick up local knowledge – how to approach people respectfully, how to navigate new environments, and how to adapt to what's in front of you.

What's Included?

From the moment you touch down in Marrakech, we handle the logistics so you can focus on photography and exploration. Here’s what’s covered in your package:

  • 5 nights of accommodation in guesthouses, riads, and desert camps. Each location is clean, comfortable, and rich with character, chosen for their access to shooting locations.
  • Breakfast and dinner provided each day. Expect traditional Moroccan food prepared locally. Lunches aren’t included, and will be at your own cost to give you flexibility.
  • All transport during the workshop in private 4x4 air-conditioned vehicles. These are driven by experienced local guides who know the terrain.
  • Photography Guidance & Tuition: Hands-on instruction from Toby throughout the trip, with daily coaching sessions, help with camera settings on location, and informal feedback in the evenings.
  • Cultural Access & Local Experts: Meet and photograph locals, visit ancient kasbahs, and explore traditional Berber villages with help from our in-country team. These moments bring depth to your photo stories and add meaning to your images.
